Crystal Palace former bingo hallCrystal Palace Cinema campaigners who want to see the former bingo hall in Church Road become a cinema maybe one step nearer achieving their aim as Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) who own the site are not going to appeal the council decision which turned down its application to open it as a place of worship. The buildings D2 classification means that  it can only be used for permissible uses such as a dance hall, cinema, concert hall, bingo hall or casino. KICC  is now considering a variety of building use options that will most benefit the whole community.

Nearly 7,000 members of the Crystal Palace community signed a petition supporting the Crystal Place Cinema Campaign (CPCC) and developments are being followed by facebook groups with over 6,000 members.

A statement released by KICC today read:(KICC) is now able to confirm it will not be lodging an appeal against the planning decision. KICC did not wish to be seen as “fighting” the very community that it wants to be a part of.

It was always in KICC’s plans for the building to have a large element of community use in any seven daysthe church is now considering a variety of building use options that will most benefit the whole community.

A fuller statement would be released released in due course in terms of its plans for the building after it had consulted with the community over its plans.

It is still unclear how exclusively the building would be used by KICC for its activities.
